This piece is from a new series called “The Harbinger Series” that deals with current threats to our fragile environment. Nature, our environment and the diverse plant, aquatic, insect and animal life are intertwined with our own. We humans rely on a healthy, thriving, biodiverse world for the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and for our continued well-being. How many more springs will we witness if we continue on the current path of destruction?
I wrote the above paragraph just before the onset of this pandemic, subsequently the world ground to an unexpected halt. This virus has shown us how interconnected our global community is, how fragile our food chain is, and how our way of life of constant striving and acquisition is harming both our planet and ourselves. There has been great suffering and loss, but there are lessons to be learned from this experience. There is also joy and peace to be had in silence and stillness. The earth has begun to repair herself and nature continues on without us. My hope is that this may be a wake-up call to choose a different path forward.
This image and others in this series are composed from my own photographs, some digitally captured, some that combine traditional and alternative photographic processes. These fragments of images from my own personal archive are recombined to create a new image.
