Exploring Ekphrastic Writing

Let your writing genie out of the bottle or come for curiosity and pure enjoyment. Free yourself from the dullness and drab winter can sometimes bring as we move into Spring. Ekphrastic poetry can be a great way to break out of a “stuck spot” or writing slump. Experience how images as springboards can give you a different voice, transport you in time, place, or mood.
Experienced poet, educator, and art lover, Judith Youngers, PHD, will guide participants in viewing visual art in order to start at least three writing pieces, with a focus on poetry. Participants will be encouraged to work on poetry, flash fiction, micro-fiction (a “short short”), or creative nonfiction.
We trust you’ll find the workshop supportive, challenging, intimate, enlightening, engaging, and fun! All are welcome: experienced writers, first time writers, and everyone in between.
Participants can choose images that speak to them that hang in the gallery at Studio
Comfort Texas or perhaps ones that intrigue them that they bring in themselves.
PLEASE NOTE: Studio Comfort Texas featured artist, Polly Jones, will be participating as a student and honored guest. Join us later in the day for an opening reception of her exhibition, "Daydreams in Bright Hours" from 2:00-6:00 pm.
Books of poetry will be available to purchase, including anthologies containing poems written by Judith Youngers and other local and Texas poets.

Details:
- 16 student maximum
- Materials: Simply bring your preferred writing tools. Handouts will be provided.
- Sketchbooks, pencils, and books of poetry are available to purchase inside the Studio Comfort Texas art gallery across the street
- Drinking water and light snack will be provided
Classes will be conducted at ARTSPACE | 713 HIGH STREET, COMFORT, TX 78013 – across the street from our gallery (716 High St).
