ARTIST STATEMENT
“As a Texas girl and reared in the Southwest... I have a mix of a southern lady and out-west adventure. At the age of six, I put my hands in "finger-paint" for the first time. As I viewed the art my small hands made, I remember feeling true wonder and joy. Something inside me said MORE! From that moment, I was “all in” for creating art. The love of painting continued through elementary and high school. My art was validated as I won competitions. In college I edited the yearbook and enjoyed creating with photographs and typeface. My first love of making art on paper and canvas kept calling. I listened and picked up a brush and returned to the easel to keep telling my story. I added writing to many of my paintings because this is my second love. When writing and painting intertwine...it is truly my happy place. Many of my paintings have Asemic writings and marks adding to the narrative of my art. My life is full of joy, faith in God, love of my family and sprinkled with amazing friends. These elements helped me face cancer twice, now nine years in my rearview mirror. And through this, the beauty of the paint going on canvas...best tells my story. Through all circumstances...painting is my ally, my friend, my go-to- place...telling my story of how the “love of art” along with grace has moved me through life. Most days I am working in my large light-filled studio. It has an inspirational view of the Texas Hill Country and the Guadalupe River behind our property. I have a huge painting wall for larger paintings. My abstracts and impressionist art are created with many thin layers of paint I use oil, acrylic, pastels, pen, and pencils. And I know “why I am painting”. It is for the wonder and joy, I found as a six-year- old at the easel years ago.” — Carolyn Rothwell Purchase available paintings in Carolyn's Shop carolynrothwellfineart.com |
