CURIOUS CUTTINGS & REBELLIOUS RHIZOMES
AN ONLINE EXHIBITION OF ARTWORK FEATURING CARRA GARZA + TRACY LYNCH
PART OF FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA 2020
PART OF FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA 2020
CURIOUS CUTTINGS & REBELLIOUS RHIZOMES features two artists who turn to the natural world to find solace and resilience, employing lens-based interpretations and solar printing methods of their flora familiars. In a time when many are tuned constantly to the current trials of the modern world, Garza and Lynch rebel gloriously by focusing on the undeterred plant life nurturing us even as we struggle within our own species.
“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” - John Muir The exhibition is also part of the 8th Annual Comfort Art Festival. Artists will be on hand most of the day to greet visitors and discuss their work. At all times during business and special events, we ask that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced. |

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
CARRA GARZA
ARTIST STATEMENT
The focus of my artistic studio practice and work is an abiding appreciation for our natural world and the role we play in it. Plant and animal specimens are feral plunder. Nature is presented not only as a found object, but also as a means to explore ideas of the human condition: life, death, love, cruelty, isolation and resilience. The process of image capture is detailed and direct. It presents even the most modest flora on equal terms, which calls into question our perceived ascendancy.
Layers of wax, oil stick, pastel, transfer and collage are employed as symbols of the change and unpredictability that occurs as the natural world journeys through a continuous passage of seasons and time. Our existence with the environment is meant to be a collaborative one. The singular motivation of nature to adapt for its survival provides keys to our preservation as well.
