"I am essentially a printmaker and "printmaking" is historically about telling a visual story and repeating it "verbatim" many times. Consistency is the preferred outcome and any anomalies produced in the process of working are destroyed in favor of presenting a consistent product. This is an approach that I have long resisted. Then I create my work, there are methods that I have utilized repeatedly that allow variation in my series of related prints. I often use printing plates made with interchangeable parts that are rearranged as I print to produce different visual results. I also use variations of color in each I,age to express moods and perception of time. This way of working allows me to make spontaneous decisions as I create each print to expand the reading of the images beyond only one frozen moment in time."
